Maybe it has something to do with Moscow moving closer to geographic north, which would then put the US closer to the equator. That in conjunction with the increase in volcanic activity. Hmm... There's also Fukushima, but the effects of the radiation dispersion needs to be modeled & extrapolated, then compared to observations to reach a reasonable conlcusion.
