Comment by Bear on June 27, 2011 at 10:03pm The unfortunate thing about this whole affair is that it, once again, paints the cops as the bad guys. now don't get me wrong, there are bad cops, but really, are they all crooked; on the take or just a bunch of doughnut eating, coffee swilling party goers?
Truth is in any given town ( at any given moment) in North America the bad guys outnumber the cops. It's a tough job, and it's even tougher when average Joe citizen, takes the comfort route and films police doings from a safe distance to make sure they're doing there job right. In that respect - "who is really under the gun"? Is it the woman filming( who would be the first to call police if she had a break in at her house) or the "career" officer who has to worry he didn't unintentionally, wrongly take down a criminal (according to regulation procedure) and may be out of a (career) job because someone couldn't wait to post on YouTube!
Yes, I agree, ticketing cars parked an inch from the curb is trivial, but understand the regular beat cop gets his orders from above..complain to the mayor or city council they're the ones putting the pressure on the cops.
Like them or not, cops do play a vital role in keeping the peace. Chances are if you can walk down the street in any town - you can thank a police officer. Cops aren't the bad guys...dumb laws are.
Back to the lady with the camera...would she dare go to the "hood" and start filming illegal activities..I truly doubt it.
Have a good day....Bear
